LOS ANGELES CULTURAL AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT TO ADMINISTER ART EXHIBIT PROGRAMS AT LOS ANGELES, ONTARIO AIRPORTS

 

(Los Angeles, California -- May 21, 2002) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today approved a memorandum of understanding with the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department to administer and provide curatorial services for art exhibits programs at Los Angeles International (LAX) and Ontario International (ONT) Airports.

ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT SHORT-TERM LOTS TO RE-OPEN
(Ontario, California - May 20, 2002) Ontario International Airport’s (ONT) hourly lots, which were closed since Sept. 11 due to a federal mandate restricting public parking within 300 feet of the terminals, re-opened today. The lots have new parking rates designed to accommodate patrons visiting the airport for a short period and to minimize traffic congestion in front of the terminals.

W.H. SMITH AWARDED CONTRACT EXTENSION FOR LAX RETAIL CONCESSIONS

 

(Los Angeles, California -- May 7, 2002) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today approved an amendment to a retail concession contract with W.H. Smith, Inc., providing a three-year extension with two one-year extension options and requiring the firm to undertake $8 million in capital improvements at its stores at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The contract calls for LAWA to receive a minimum annual guarantee of $15,684,500 or 17 percent of gross sales, whichever is greater.

L.A. WORLD AIRPORTS TO RECEIVE $46.2 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDS FOR SEPT. 11 SECURITY COSTS, TAXIWAY IMPROVEMENTS
(Los Angeles, California -- May 7, 2002) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today authorized Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) to accept federal grants totaling $46,246,764. The grants cover partial reimbursements for security costs incurred at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Ontario International Airport (ONT) for implementing new security measures between Sept. 11, 2001, and January 18, 2002, and for construction improvements to an airfield taxiway over Sepulveda Boulevard near LAX.

LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS LAUNCHES LOW-INTEREST, $150-MILLION COMMERCIAL PAPER FINANCING PROGRAM
(Los Angeles, California -- May 3, 2002) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has launched a $150-million commercial paper financing program and said it intends to make an initial draw of $10 million within one week to pay for reconstruction of an aircraft taxiway at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). This is the first commercial paper program in the city agency's 74-year history.
