Moody's Upgrades LAX's Senior Lien Credit Rating
(Los Angeles, CA) This week, Moody’s Investors Service announced that they have upgraded the credit rating for Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). LAX’s $3.4B in outstanding Senior Revenue Bonds were upgraded to Aa2 from Aa3, and the $2.7B in outstanding Subordinate Revenue Bonds (in addition to the bonds expected to price next week) were upgraded to Aa3 from A1. Moody’s also maintained the outlook for LAWA as stable. High ratings are generally a factor in lowering borrowing costs for issuers.

Solar Energy Projects Take Flight at Van Nuys Airport
(Van Nuys, CA) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) today joined with local elected leaders and aviation executives to further embrace sustainable energy with the announcement of solar power generation at Van Nuys general aviation Airport (VNY). VNY business tenant Aeroplex/Aerolease Group showcased the recent operational launch of its solar rooftop and canopy installation — a first at VNY – and six other business tenants also unveiled solar energy project commitments. This is the first installment of solar power generation at a LAWA airport, with future projects projected to come online, pending regulatory approvals. Upon completion of all seven projects presented today, VNY will become one of California’s leading general aviation airports for solar energy production.

American Airlines, Los Angeles World Airports Break Ground on $1.6B Reimagining of Terminals 4 and 5 at LAX
(Los Angeles, CA) Today, American Airlines and Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) officially broke ground on a $1.6 billion modernization project to fully reimagine Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Terminals 4 and 5. The project marks American's largest investment at a single airport in American’s 92-year history and reaffirms the airline’s commitment to Los Angeles. At the end of the modernization program, LAWA will reimburse American Airlines for the majority of the work as part of its lease agreement.

Angeleno's Abstract Art Now on Display at LAX
(Los Angeles, CA) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), in partnership with the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA), announces a new art exhibition at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) featuring works by multi-media artist Martin Durazo. Durazo was born and raised in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles. The 19 abstract paintings in a series are influenced by the physical and cultural landscape of Southern California. His exhibition, titled "Points of Entry," is located in the Terminal 1 Arrivals area and will be on view for the public until spring of 2019.

LAWA Recognized as "Business Leader In Air Quality" by South Coast Air Quality Management District with 2018 Clean Air Award
(Los Angeles, CA) Today, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) was recognized by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) for its leadership in air-quality stewardship at its 30th Annual Clean Air Awards Luncheon. The award recognizes LAWA as a "Business Leader in Air Quality," for its sustainability initiatives at Los Angeles International (LAX) and Van Nuys (VNY) general aviation airports. These initiatives include airport carbon accreditation, alternative fuel programs, clean vehicle requirements, and other initiatives that will help LAX reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050.

Bob Hope USO Moves Into New Home at LAX's Historic Theme Building
(Los Angeles, CA) Bob Hope USO celebrated its move into the historic Theme Building at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Wednesday with a grand opening event that featured remarks from Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, who served his country as an intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserve and was instrumental in the project to relocate the USO Center, and leadership from Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), the Bob Hope USO and military officials. LAX, American Association of Airport Executives, Debut New "Ride App Pickup" Icon to Clearly Identify Pick-Up/Drop-Off Areas at U.S. Airports
(Los Angeles, CA) This month, Los Angeles World Airport (LAWA) officials, in partnership with the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) deployed a new wayfinding sign to help guests find app-based ride services at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The new term, called Ride App Pickup, was developed in partnership between LAWA, AAAE, and other national airports, and is expected to gradually be deployed at airports across the U.S. in the coming months. LAX is the first airport to debut the new term and icon.

Successful North Complex Power Shutdown Exercise Provides Valuable Insight on LAX's Power Resiliency
(Los Angeles, CA) Late in the evening of Tuesday, September 11, more than 300 personnel from Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), Los Angeles Airport Police Division, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, concessionaires, airlines, and airport partners gathered on the roof of Parking Structure 2A and at the Department Operations Center (DOC) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to commence an overnight power exercise. The planned exercise assessed the impact a complete loss of power would have on the north terminals (Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3) and the resiliency of the systems in place in the case of such a power failure. The exercise, while only on the north complex, provided a real-time test of the backup generators, fire/life/safety systems, emergency communications and recovery protocols that are in place in the case of a major power failure.

Board of Airport Commissioners Increases Investment in Musical Arts Program at LAX
(Los Angeles, CA) Yesterday, the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) approved an amendment to add an additional $150,000 to the contract with Grand Performances for the development and production of cultural programming at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Grand Performances collaborates with Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) on the LAX Presents program, which features Los Angeles-based artists performing in the unique space of an international airport. The 2018 LAX Presents line-up includes 18 performances across nine months, including six classical performances, a DJ with dancers and a percussionist, a marionette show, and a dance troupe influenced by the India subcontinent.
