LAX TO RE-OPEN CENTRAL TERMINAL AREA ROADWAYS AND PARKING STRUCTURES TO PRIVATE VEHICLES

MAYOR JIM HAHN CALLS FOR LAX MASTER PLAN ALTERNATIVE BASED ON SAFETY AND SECURITY

(Los Angeles, California -- October 8, 2001) Mayor Jim Hahn today requested the Board of Airport Commissioners develop an alternative to the LAX Master Plan focused on safety and security at the airport.

In the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the alternative would consider the impact on the airport, prior public comments, and the testimony and written comments presented during the remaining six public hearings to be held in the coming weeks.

NEW BUSINESS AND EMPLOYEE SERVICE TEAM PROVIDES AIRPORT EMPLOYERS INFORMATION TO ASSIST DISPLACED EMPLOYEES
(Los Angeles, California - October 3, 2001) Los Angeles Mayor Jim Hahn and officials of Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) today launched a newly established Business and Employee Service Team (BEST) to assist air carriers and other tenants at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in addressing an estimated 10,000 to 12,000 employee layoffs that have already begun due to the significant economic repercussions of the terrorist attacks of September 11 that closed the nation's airports.

MAJOR INTERSECTION AT ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT CLOSED TEMPORARILY FOR CONSTRUCTION
Ontario, California --- (September 27, 2001) The intersection of Vineyard Avenue and Airport Drive at Ontario International Airport (ONT) is temporarily closed as construction continues on the westerly portion of Airport Drive, which is currently being widened from two lanes to six lanes. The intersection is scheduled to reopen in early October when the reconfiguration of underground electrical, gas, water, and telephone lines are completed.

SIX MORE PUBLIC HEARINGS ON LAX MASTER PLAN TO BE HELD BEGINNING OCTOBER 30

Hahn, the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Master Plan comment period has been extended to November 9, 2001, and six additional public hearings have been planned around the region, beginning Tuesday, October 30, with a hearing in Monterey Park.
