‘LAX is Happening’ Provides New Resources for Navigating Anticipated Construction-related Traffic and Closures, Info on Current and Planned Improvements

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – May 6, 2014 – Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has launched a new public outreach campaign to inspire and inform LAX travelers and nearby residential communities about the multi-year, multi-billion dollar modernization program underway at the airport. Themed LAX is Happening, the campaign features new resources, tools and tips to help the public navigate anticipated traffic impacts and airport construction-related closures over the coming years.

LAWA PLACES 16TH AMONG GOVERNMENT AGENCIES IN ITS USE OF GREEN POWER
(Los Angeles, California – April 6, 2014) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has placed 16th among the government agencies nationwide that participate in the Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Power Partnership (GPP).  The GPP is a voluntary program that encourages organizations to use green power as a way of reducing environmental impacts associated with the conventional use of electricity.

L.A.’S URBAN CULTURE COMES TO LIFE THROUGH THREE DIVERSE ART EXHIBITS AT LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
(Los Angeles, California – May 2, 2014) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) in partnership with the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs announces three new art exhibitions at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) that explore Los Angeles’ natural and built environments through sculpture, painting, photography, drawing, and mixed-media works. Featuring solo installations by Jaime Scholnick in Terminal 1 and Luciana Abait in Terminal 3, and a group exhibition guest curated by Milo + McLean in Terminals 7 and 8, the artworks on display re-interpret the substance of our environment and the familiar Southern California experience.

LOS ANGELES AIRPORT POLICE TO HOST THIRD ANNUAL TOMMY E. SCOTT MEMORIAL RUN AT LAX
(Los Angeles, California – April 29, 2014) Los Angeles Airport Police Division hosted the Third Annual Tommy E. Scott 5K Memorial Run on, April 30, beginning 7:30 a.m. in front of the Airport Police Station. The 5K run was held in honor of Airport Police Officer Tommy E. Scott, who was killed in the line of duty on April 29, 2005. All proceeds from the event go toward the Tommy E. Scott Scholarship Fund.

TRAVEL ADVISORY LAX CONDITIONS FOLLOWING FAA GROUND STOP IN LOS ANGELES REGION

Update #3/FINAL at 8:30 p.m.:

After completing an assessment of flight operations of the nearly 60 passenger airlines at LAX, LAX Airport Operations reports the following impacts resulting from today’s ground stop through midnight tonight:

1.       ARRIVING FLIGHTS TO LAX:  A total of 27 cancellations, 212 delays, and 27 diversions to other airports

2.       DEPARTING FLIGHTS FROM LAX:  A total of 23 cancellations (primarily due to aircraft were unavailable with cancelled arrival flights) and 216 delays.

3.       No international arriving or departing flights were cancelled.

4.       The number of passengers on the 50 total arriving and departing cancelledflights is estimated at nearly 6,800.

5.       The number of passengers on the 455 total arriving and departing delayedflights is estimated in the tens of thousands. 

6.       Departure operations are expected to return to normal by 11 p.m.

7.       Arrival operations are expected to return to normal by 12 midnight.

LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS AUTHORIZES ALLOCATION OF $9.2 MILLION TO CITY OF EL SEGUNDO FOR RESIDENTIAL SOUND INSULATION
 (Los Angeles, California – April 21, 2014)  The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today authorized staff to enter into a Letter of Agreement with the City of El Segundo for its Residential Sound Insulation Grant Program and to release $9.225 million for an eligible noise-mitigation project.

LAX PUP PROGRAM CELEBRATES ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF FOUR-LEGGED AMBASSADORS
(Los Angeles, California – April 17, 2014)  On November 2, 2013, passengers inside Terminal 3 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) were wary and tense as Finn strode in just one day after a gunman had opened fire, killing a Transportation Security Administration screening officer.  As Finn moved in and out of the boarding gate areas, the mood quickly shifted as passengers began to relax and smile at the giant therapy dog.

VOLARIS BEGINS SERVICE FROM ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO GUADALAJARA, MEXICO THIS SPRING

(Ontario, California – April 2, 2014)  Volaris will begin twice-weekly service between Ontario International Airport (ONT) and Guadalajara starting April 10.

“This is very exciting since it’s the first time Volaris will serve ONT,” said ONT’s manager Jess Romo.  “International travelers will have more options when flying to Mexico.  We look forward to partnering with Volaris and having another international carrier at ONT.”
