LAX POLICE CHIEF BERNARD J. WILSON ANNOUNCES PLANS TO RETIRE FROM CITY SERVICE

(Los Angeles, California – June 24, 2005) Chief of Los Angeles Airport Police Bernard J. Wilson today announced plans to retire from City service and pursue new opportunities."A number of decision points have come my way over the last few months, each of them leading to major opportunities," the chief said in a memo to colleagues. "After reflecting on those opportunities, I have decided to retire from City service and embark on the next phase of my life."

OPERATIONS NORMAL AT LAX FOLLOWING REGIONAL JET INCIDENT SUNDAY NIGHT

(Los Angeles, California June 13, 2005) -- A United Express regional jet operated by Skywest Airlines landed with a nose gear malfunction Sunday night at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). There were no injuries to the 17 passengers and crew. The plane, a Canadair 200 LR Regional Jet, sustained only minimal damage to its nose gear.

(Los Angeles, California – May 16, 2005) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today awarded AMD Construction Group of Orange, California, a contract for residential soundproofing. The contract, totaling $908.000, will cover sound-insulation modifications on a total of 48 single and multi-family residences located within the noise-impacted area of Council District 11.

LOS ANGELES AIRPORT NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR ITS SUMMER AVIATION PROGRAM FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

(Los Angeles, California – May 11, 2005) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and its business and community partners will co-host two free week-long educational programs to introduce middle and high-school students to careers in aviation. The programs will be conducted at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The Junior Aviation Careers Education (ACE) Academy for middle-school students is scheduled Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15.
