LOS ANGELES AIRPORT POLICE OFFICERS RECOGNIZED BY LOS ANGELES CITY COUNCIL FOR SAVING A LIFE
(Los Angeles, California – February 9, 2012) Two Los Angeles Airport Police officers will be recognized by the Los Angeles City Council for saving the life of a female who suffered a heart attack at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in December. Councilmember Dennis Zine will present the officers with certificates of appreciation during the regularly scheduled council meeting on Friday, February 10, 2012, at 10:00 a.m.

ARTIST’S DRAWINGS CREATE A “HAPPY DAY” IN TERMINAL 2 AT LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
(Los Angeles, California – February 7, 2012) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), in partnership with the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs,announces an art exhibition by Los Angeles-based artist Yong Sin at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The exhibition features large-scale, patterned ink drawings in the atrium in Terminal 2 Ticketing area on the Upper/Departures Level. The exhibition is on view through August 2012 for ticketed passengers, and portions are viewable by the general public.

LAX’S NEW CENTRAL UTILITY PLANT PROJECT MARKS CONSTRUCTION MILESTONE “TOPPING OUT” CEREMONY CELEBRATES LAST STRUCTURAL STEEL BEAM PLACEMENT ATOP STRUCTURE
(Los Angeles, California – January 24, 2012) The $438-million replacement Central Utility Plant (CUP) project at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) marked a major construction milestone today with a “Topping Out” ceremony that celebrated the placement of the last piece of structural steel. Following a 1,000 year old construction tradition, a small tree and an American flag crowned the steel beam, a tradition signifying the building team’s and owner’s hopes for good luck and success with the building. The beam is then lifted 75 feet high and attached to the top of the structure.

LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT REPORTS 2011 PASSENGER LEVEL UP 4.7 PERCENT OVER 2010; AIR CARGO DOWN 3.8 PERCENT
Airport officials reported today that total passenger volume at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) for 2011 increased 4.7 percent with 61,862,052 passengers, compared with 59,070,127 passengers in 2010. There was a 4.6 percent growth in domestic passengers to 45,130,728 from 43,134,145 in 2010. International traffic grew by 4.9 percent to 16,731,324 passengers from 15,935,982 in 2010.
Total air cargo tonnage dropped 3.8 percent to 1,853,658 from 1,926,825 in 2010. Air mail tonnage rose 8.6 percent to 80,442 tons from 74,034 tons in 2010. Freight (goods) decreased 4.2 percent to 1,773,215 tons from 1,852,791 tons in 2010.
