Today’s approval marks the largest contract ever awarded in the City’s history. The item was heard at Los Angeles City Council’s Trade, Travel and Tourism (TTT) committee meeting on April 10, where it was also unanimously approved.

April Modernization Highlights: Key Updates on Construction Projects at LAX
  • Terminal Loop: Projects in the terminal loop will restrict the right-most lanes on the Lower/Arrivals Level overnight near Terminal 2 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal.
  • Parking Structure 3 & 4: Upper levels of Parking Structure 4 can only be reached through Parking Structure 3 until early summer.
  • Metro Project: Metro’s work on the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project will require lane closures on Century Boulevard. Guests should allow additional time to reach the airport.

(Los Angeles, CA) The Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) today approved a $4.9B 30-year Public-Private Partnership (P3) contract with LAX Integrated Express Solutions (LINXS) to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Automated People Mover (APM) system at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). LINXS' proposal had the highest technical score and the lowest cost proposal of the three teams that participated in the procurement process.

LAX's Central Utility Plant Wins "Innovation Award" From Los Angeles Better Building Challenge
(Los Angeles, CA) The Los Angeles Better Buildings Challenge (LABBC) recently awarded its “Walk the Walk” Innovation Award in recognition of Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) Central Utility Plant (CUP). The CUP uses co-generation technology to generate electricity, heating and cooling for the airport’s terminals from natural gas. The “Walk the Walk” award recognizes Los Angeles World Airports’ (LAWA) efforts to increase the CUP’s efficiency through strategic improvements to the facility’s infrastructure that have resulted in a savings of 1.6 million kilowatt hours annually and increased HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) efficiency improvements. LAWA officials received the award from LABBC staff during the group’s fourth annual Innovation Awards luncheon on Monday.

Los Angeles World Airports, Southwest®, and Westfield are bringing new energy and excitement amid a $508 million modernization project of LAX Terminal 1 scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018. The project, which launched in September 2014, has been intentionally constructed to minimize impact to passengers. LAWA Opens Up Draft RFQ Comment Period For The Northside Project At Lax
(Los Angeles, CA) This week, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) opened up the comment period for the Draft Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the LAX Northside Area project. The LAX Northside Area is located immediately adjacent to LAX and in proximity to high-quality educational institutions, a world-class tech hub, a retail corridor and residential areas. The area is approximately 93 acres situated between the north airfield of LAX and the communities of Westchester and Playa del Rey. It stretches from Loyola Boulevard and Westchester Parkway on the east to Pershing Drive on the west. Given the size and location of the property, the project area provides opportunities for innovative proposals on how to utilize the land within the constraints of the guidelines created with the input of the local community.
