LOS ANGELES – May 23, 2001 – While nearly 800,000 travelers will pass through Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) over Memorial Day weekend, some will get there and back the "green" way – sharing the ride, and protecting the environment. LAX will celebrate with Green Ride Day on Friday, May 25, by rewarding the first 2,001 of these conscientious travelers to arrive at the airport with coupons for a free Krispy Kreme doughnut and coffee – and a chance to win the prize of a summer party for 20 friends at the Encounter Restaurant in the LAX landmark Theme Building.

INTERNATIONAL VISITORS CAN SOON RENT CELLULAR PHONES AT LAX

(Los Angeles, California – May 17, 2001) International visitors to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will soon have the convenience of renting cellular phones.

The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today approved a sub-concession agreement between Lenlyn Limited, dba ICE Currency Services USA (ICE); and Auto Symphony of San Francisco, dba Triptel, to provide rental cellular phone service at the airport's Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT).

VIRGIN ATLANTIC AIRLINES CARGO LEASE AT LAX APPROVED

(Los Angeles, California – May 7, 2001) Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), in partnership with the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, has begun a first-of-its kind, six-month pilot program to recycle food "leftovers" into electricity to be fed to the local power grid. The program is expected to lead to recycling all discarded food from LAX, and is being watched by public agencies and municipalities nationwide for its potential to divert waste from landfills, while simultaneously generating energy.
