LAX TO HOLD TWO SEPTEMBER 11 REMEMBRANCE EVENTS FOR PUBLIC

 

(Los Angeles, California - August 29, 2002) Officials at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) today announced plans to commemorate Sept. 11, 2001, with two public events: a candlelight vigil and plaque dedication on Tuesday, Sept. 10, and a "Circle of Unity" ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

LAX PREDICTS NEARLY 700,000 TRAVELERS OVER LABOR DAY WEEKEND
(Los Angeles, California - August 28, 2002) Nearly 700,000 passengers are expected to move through Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) over the four-day Labor Day weekend. This would be about the same as passenger volume over the Memorial Day weekend, but down about 15 percent from last year's similar period.

MURAL OF TUSKEGEE AIRMEN HONORING AVIATION WAR HEROES DEBUTS AT LOS ANGELES AIRPORT
(Los Angeles, California – August 28, 2002) A mural honoring the courageous World War II African-American fighter pilots known as the Tuskegee Airmen makes its debut at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on the Lower/Arrival Level of Terminal 3. The mural is the first artwork on exhibit at LAX under the newly managed Art Exhibits Program, a partnership between Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department.

David M. Stone, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) federal security director, will be available for news media interviews as the Transportation Security Administration begins its local two-day recruiting drive for airport security screeners. Stone will be able to describe the program and the process underway at LAX to meet the Nov. 19 deadline for the federalization of security screening of airline passengers.

CONTRACT AWARDED FOR RESIDENTIAL SOUNDPROOFING NEAR LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
(Los Angeles, California - August 20, 2002) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today awarded Westcoast Nielson of Santa Fe Springs a contract for residential soundproofing near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The $1,036,305 contract will cover sound-insulation modifications on 68 multi-family residences located in the Los Angeles communities of Westchester and Playa del Rey within the noise-impacted area of City Council District 11.

MAYOR HAHN ANNOUNCES NEW MEASURES TO FORTIFY LAX PERIMETER
(Los Angeles, California -- July 26, 2002) Building on his commitment to create the nation's safest airport, Mayor Jim Hahn today announced the first phase of security enhancements slated for Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) through a new $15 million initiative that will feature physical and technological upgrades to the airport's perimeter.
