Facility Is First Among U.S. Airports Dedicated To Hiring, Training Federal Transportation Security Officers and Airport Police Officers
(Los Angeles, California – August 16, 2006) Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa and officials from Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) opened today a new recruitment and training center at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The center is the first such facility at a U.S. airport to be dedicated to recruiting, testing and training federal Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) and Airport Police officers, and underscores the close cooperation between LAWA and the TSA.
(Los Angeles, California – August 10, 2003) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) announced it has heightened alertness and increased security at its airports in response to the U.S. Homeland Security Department raising the national threat level for the aviation sector to High or Orange:
- Los Angeles Airport Police are working with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), other federal and local law enforcement agencies, and airlines to implement a range of security measures appropriate to the heightened security.
WHAT: | Multi-agency inspection operation is currently underway at LAX with unannounced inspections of commercial ground transportation vehicles (limousines, taxis, vans, etc.) Inspections of commercial vehicles include both mechanical and administrative processes. Los Angeles Airport Police Ground Transportation Enforcement Unit, California Public Utilities Commission, Los Angeles Department of Transportation and Los Angeles World Airports Landside Operations are concentrating on proper licensing (PUC permits and valid drivers licenses), airport operating permits, and other law enforcement related issues. The California Highway Patrol is concentrating on braking systems, passenger restraints and other safety systems required to be in good working order. |
